Biography and Research Interests

I am currently lecturer in Psychology at Plymouth University.

Previously I was lecturer in psychology at the University of Hull and before that, an Associate Research Fellow and Teaching Fellow at the University of Exeter. I completed my PhD at the University of York under the supervision of Andy Young together with Chang Hong Liu from the University of Hull (now at Bournemouth University), focussing upon the learning of new faces from photographic images. I have a strong interest in all aspects of face recognition and processing; in particular, the processes behind how unfamiliar faces become familiar and the recogntiion and perception of of faces in prosopagnoisa. My current research projects include examining the ability of the face recognition system to generalise to novel viewpoints of a newly learnt face and the ability to generalise across ages. I am currently collaborating with Isabel Santos (University of Aveiro) on neuro-correlates of face learning using skin conductance response (SCR) and ERP measures.

I have recently been working with Jeremy Tree (University of Swansea) on the role of motion in the recognition of faces by prosopagnosics. I have also worked on category formation in free classification tasks with Andy Wills (Department of Psychology, University of Plymouth) and Fraser Milton (School of Psychology, University of Exeter).
